What is short run printing or short run publishing?
When you are using a short run printer as opposed to a Print on Demand (POD) printer, the printer will produce between 500-5000 books for you. With POD an electronic file is created of your book. If someone orders 2 books, exactly 2 books are created.
With Short Run printing you do it all yourself. You have to lay the entire book out on your computer. This means doing the typesetting, cover design, ISBN registration, and layout on your own. Then you print about 1000 copies of your book (which you may have to store in your garage).
The benefit to doing short run printing is the individual costs of the books is much lower. So you have the potential to make more money.

I've published my book myself. Book sales aren't going so well. How do I get my book into the bookstores? I know if people had the opportunity to see my book on a bookstore shelf they would buy it.
Most bookstores do not deal with individual publishers because of the amount of bookkeeping required to keep track of all transactions and handle returns. So, they usually deal with a few large distributors.
Your best bet is to contact the distributors and convince them to carry your book.

What is a ghostwriter?
A ghostwriter is someone you hire to help you write your book. This could be someone who would write the entire book for you after you've come up with the main idea.
It could also be someone who takes your original manuscript and re-writes it to improve what you have already written. Ghostwriting is very common in the publishing industry. It is estimated 50% of all books use a ghostwriter.
